The Truth Of American Dream

The American dream is get wealth in new country. Gatsby's story shows the bad side of the American dream. Once he was wealthy, everyone liked him and his party, they wanted to come to Gatsby's party and hang with him, he was famous. Gatsby achieved American dream but when he died no one cared about him. Only reporter came to asking about his behind stories. This shows that people didn't really care about person , they only liked person's wealth. How sad that no one is showing up at funeral. Daisy just went to trip after the bad things happen, which means she didn't care what would happen to Gatsby. "Look here, old sport, you've got to get somebody for me. You've got to try hard. I can't go through this alone." (165) This quote tells that Gatsby already knew that no one will come to his funeral but Nick will. Here is my question. Is Daisy really loved Gatsby him self or she just liked the money he had? Is American dream is only considered about money, not person it self? While I reading The Great Gatsby I learned that money is not all. We need better person next to me, who really care about me, like Nick did.
I liked this book, I learned that money is not all, and I need good person. I also learned that don't spend too much time in one thing, we need plan B.

  1. I agree with you. Gatsby's story shows the decline and loss of the American dream and how cruel it can be. In a matter of days you can go to rich and famous to having nothing and being unstable. its a sad thought and a sad world to live in

  2. Great work Ho Jin. You've got some very insightful thoughts here on the American Dream, and I believe you draw some strong conclusions. If we look at Gatsby, he had all the money in the world, but he didn't have love and he didn't have any close friends who really knew him aside from Nick. The dream isn't all about money and class, for those tend to lead to an empty existence. Well done.
